How Skiing Works

So I went skiing another time.

It was the same procedure as two years back, part business trip, part hardout skiing. A very nice hotel and some lovely company from the company. Stupid luck in the weather department. Nice slopes and a lot of fun.

Also, I had the chance to once more capture friends on the slopes:

But something stuck with me since. This 4th week out skiing, someone explained a fundamental about that activity:

Skiing is about the combination of the gear and the ground underneath.

One without the other won’t be as much fun.
(the pictures are supposed to show glimpses of mentioned ‘fun’)

Let me get philosophical: Life might just be the same. You always are in a place. This place is where you function right then and there. And you are in a way bound to this place. Without it, you cannot go to the next and without the former place you wouldn’t be in the one you are in right now.
In order to participate in the ultimate sport, which is life itself, you need to work with what you have. You and your place are the two factors determining the future.

You can decide what you’ll do with the place: Do you go straight, do you induce a turn, do you stop, do you decide to fall over because it was all too fast for you?
But without yourself and your decision, the place won’t stop or turn for you. It might help you more with one of the ways and might let you struggle with the other. Sometimes you get into a flow and everything comes natural and it is utter fun. Sometimes you might be overly careful, with or without a good reason, and miss out on the fun others are having in the same place. Sometimes, you might want to go back to a place and see how much you have grown since, while doing it one more time in the present.

Sometimes, places inspire you. Sometimes, places frighten you. Sometimes, places break you. Sometimes, places miss out on you.

Also, some places are shared. Like a slope, which you not often find at your sole disposal, in many places other people are to be taken into consideration.

Some places wouldn’t be the same without the others in it. Some places would not even be worth it. Some places you might experience differently because of the presence or absence of other individuals.

I will leave my slopes of thought and leave you guys with some more shots from the mountains.

What happened in 2019: Special Friends Edition

One trip I took in 2019 deserves a special place among this series.

As this trip combined some feels and some nostalgia, which I am into.
I visited my dear relatives for a few great days. Those relatives, mind you, who I talked about in older entries. Those days of the childhood, those carefree times, just coming along our parents and experiencing pure joys of childhood.

Now, I visited them on my own. After New Zealand, we had not seen each other that many times, so it was a lovely reunion.
With those ‘little cousins’, who are not as little anymore at all, we had some strolls where we used to go only with our parents.

And of course, all as planned, we took some pictures that night…

Monreal

One day I went with my younger cousin, both our cameras at hand, to a smaller town in the country. This one won a competition once, being a super cute and quite old town.

Also, speaking of the camera, I have news on that. For I got myself an upgrade in that department. Some of the pictures of this whole series were shot on my new tool, some on the old one. But I will elaborate on the whole ‘upgrade story’ in the next post. 😉

What happened in 2019: Friends Edition

Friends are people you have a special relationship with.

Every now and then, you spice your life up with some undertakings together with said people.
I was lucky enough to have plenty of those and we had some great days with each other.

Without much ado, be welcome to marvel at some several adventures in pictures:

The North Sea

Zurich

(all shot using a smartphone)

Vejers (Denmark)

Passau

Bremerhaven

Minden Nights

Soothing Denmark

It is not hard to compose an entry for your blog. You only need some pictures and descriptive elements. I’ll go for a precending text on this one. Oh, and you might need some time to actually do it. That is what kept me from adding to the collection for quite a time.

Nevertheless, here is my retrospective of a fabulous week I spent in Denmark with some friends.

Most of the time we spent exploring the area and having trips to some stunning places around. In times of an elevated stress level there is nothing more soothing than a vacation like this.

Up North it goes!

I often tell people that I come from the North of Germany. That is as true as it is relative. Because last weekend I went north.
My mission: Relaxation, experience, reuniting with friends.

One of the nights I spent inside a lovely caravan of the old make and the other one amongst my friends in Hamburg. Mission relaxation I could carry out well at the caravan’s and some experience I was presented with when having breakfast inside the ecological convenience store next to it.
Hamburg itself, for two half days, offered next to the fundamental relaxation a number of experiences. We looked at the Elbphilharmonie close up, we posed as spectators at a track and field competition, we walked much and we talked even more.

I would change nothing, maybe only the amount of time spent.

At the moment I am in Frankfurt. After the High Impact Presentation course from Dale Carnegie I have a little time left before my train arrives. Or before I arrive at the station. 🙂 This time I used to complete this article.

Content of two demanding days: Analyzing the own presentation skills and improve on it. On different kinds of presenting something we were filmed and coached alongside.
A great way to succeed! Now I know exactly where my strengths and weaknesses lie and after seeing myself, I can now begin to see others see me.

Long Weekend with Friends

Even though this blog post has more pictures than words in it, the actual weekend has been full of experiences.

Do you remember Tina, with whom I had the ‘Adventure Couchsurfing’ and the ‘Authentic Kiwi Day’? 🙂
Exactly the same and her boyfriend I visited. So I went for a long weekend to Franconia.

The most amazing hosts in one picture!

One day we went into Swiss Franconia, from where I brought you some pictures of a dragonfly, mainly:

Bamberg. Just as the pictures show, a multi-layered city. She rewarded our visit with sun and a feast for the eyes and the belly.

One special attraction was so-called ‘Lesser Venice’.

As a highlight the visit of the ‘Teegießerei’  stood out. Tina went for a hot chocolate with chili and I wisely chose right, ordering some China Milky Oolong. A tea, fermented by using milk and being all deliiiicious! Including the second brew. 🙂

After Bamberg we strolled along the meadows around and the pavement inside Erlangen. And, oh well; it looked all very beautiful once more:

I am Groot.

Have you ever wanted to know what a Ferris wheel looks like through long exposure? Tadaaa:

A breeze of New Zealand came up, walking through the botanic gardens. Of course, those are to be told apart by their very plants…

As many pretty pictures arose, as many enjoyable moments there have been.
Friendship made them possible, in the first place.
